Take today to consider the building blocks for constructing a safer tomorrow
Two important events in the ‘safety calendar’ occur today, Thursday 28 April: World Day for Safety and Health at Work and Workers' Memorial Day.
The theme for World Day for Safety and Health at Work is ‘Act together to build a positive safety and health culture’, and for Workers' Memorial Day 2022, it is ‘Make safe and healthy work a fundamental right. It’s a no-brainer’. Both themes are intended to raise awareness of the importance of health and safety in the workplace and to encourage workplaces to foster a strong work health and safety culture in which everyone contributes to a safe and healthy working environment.
Of course, the impact of the pandemic has not been lost on those promoting the safety day. As noted by Safe Work Australia, the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged all businesses to adapt practices and procedures to keep workers and others safe. And this day is an important moment to reflect on how your organisation has responded to these changes. Importantly, to reflect on lessons learned and how your organisation might look to return to ‘normal’ as the next phase of the pandemic develops.
