Unsafe loading practices open the door to injury for junior worker

Case

SafeWork NSW v Steel-Line Garage Doors Australia Pty Ltd (2026)

Steel-Line Garage Doors Australia Pty Ltd (Steel-Line) manufactured garage doors at its Brisbane factory. Once completed, the doors would be transported to various sales and distribution branches across Australia, including a branch at Mayfield West, NSW.

Steel-Line employed a Junior Installation Assistant whose official role involved helping with garage door installations. The worker rarely worked out in the field; most of her duties were general tasks, such as assisting with loading trucks for the installers, within the warehouse at the Mayfield West branch. At the time of the incident, she was undertaking a 2-week trial for a warehouse position at the branch.
