Sale, hire and servicing company fined $230,000 for supplying defective boom lift
Case
WorkSafe Victoria v Licojo Pty Ltd (2026); WorkSafe Victoria v Ridge Commercial Pty Ltd (2026)
In 2017, Ridge Commercial Pty Ltd purchased a Telescopic Boom Lift from a plant sale, hire and servicing company, Licojo Pty Ltd (trading as Quick Access Rental and Training).
The following year, Ridge purchased and installed an operator protection alarm (OPA) for the boom lift. The OPA was a type of emergency stop and warning device, comprised of a pressure-sensitive strip that when activated, would stop all functions of the boom lift, sound an alarm and flash beacons.
Ridge used the boom lift to carry out roofing work at a construction site in 2023 when two of Ridge’s employees were tasked to lay safety mesh and install a handrail on an overhead steel structure for the safety of future roofing work.
