Prosecution commenced for alleged breach of engineered stone ban

Case

Enforcement of the ban on work involving engineered stone, which commenced on 1 July 2024, has resulted in the first charges being laid against a Victorian bathroom wholesaler.

The safety regulator has alleged that in July 2024, immediately after the ban commenced, Fienza Pty Ltd allowed or directed a worker to use machinery to cut holes in engineered stone benchtops at its Epping warehouse, in breach of regulation 319Y(b) of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 (Vic) (OHS Regulations).
