Party hire company fined $8,000 after 12-year-old boy injured

The Case

WorkSafe Victoria v Xtreme Party Hire (2022)

A young boy was injured when he was bounced off an inflatable obstacle course supplied by Xtreme Party Hire Pty Ltd to a football club for an end-of-season event. The event was attended by approximately 300 children aged between seven and 13, and supervised by a single worker from Xtreme for the entire inflatable for the day.

On the day of the incident, a 12-year-old boy was sitting at the bottom of the slide on the inflatable waiting for other children to move. A heavier child jumped from the top of the slide and landed next to boy, which caused him to be bounced out of the slide, over the 66cm inflatable wall onto a sand bag anchor. He suffered injury as a result.
