One apprentice, two incidents, many breaches

The Case

WorkSafe Victoria v Topline Carpentry South East Pty Ltd (2022)

Topline Carpentry South East Pty Ltd (Topline) operates as a carpentry business on construction sites. On 12 March 2021, a 16-year-old apprentice of Topline was involved in two safety incidents, which went unreported. The apprentice suffered a deep laceration to his hand in the first incident. Afterwards, work continued as normal and the apprentice began working with a colleague using a nail gun on a door frame.

The second incident involved these two workers facing each other on opposing sides.
