Aircraft incident propels potato business into court

Case

SafeWork SA v Parilla Premium Potatoes Pty Ltd (2026)

In 2023, a worker of South Australian business, Parilla Premium Potatoes Pty Ltd, was seriously injured by the propellers of a plane, that he and two workers were using to visit a nearby part of the worksite.

The company director, who was piloting the plane, and another worker wheeled the single-propellor Cessna aircraft from the hangar to the taxiway and boarded.

The pilot started the aircraft. The worker approached, walking around the front of the aircraft, after allegedly being told to approach from the rear.
